We have had a fabulous time this past year playing badminton together. This is now the end of the season and as a club we will be shut down until September. In the mean time there may be opportunities to play badminton in other venues throughout the summer.
I trust you all have a wonderful summer and we will see you all in September.
As we wrap up 2009 and launch into 2010 I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very good year ahead. I trust you are able to enjoy some good badminton and have a safe and enjoyable time doing it. I was watching Taufik Hidayat (of my native Indonesia) playing Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia in the 2009 India Open and I couldn’t help but have this secret little hope that in 2010 I could work on my backhand smash.
Looking back at 2009 I think that we can say that it was also a good year. Our tournament was a success and we have had a lot of just plain old fun playing the game we all love.
Special thanks again to Don for his tireless work on behalf of our club and thanks to all of you who take the time and make the effort to make our club a pleasant and fun experience.
For your viewing convenience I have added several links in the side bar to sites that have badminton video archives. If you know of some other sites with good badminton video resources feel free to let me know.
Here is Taufik Hidayat with another backhand smash.
Comments from Don Paquette regarding the Abbotsford Badminton Tournament held the week-end of March 21st, 22nd, 2009 with approximately 60 entries involving Juniors to Seniors.
Because of the low entry, we were able to complete the tournament in one day on Saturday, 21st. However, I understand there were plenty of games to keep the players quite active and satisfied. We haven’t had a tournament for a few years and hopefully this will be the start for the future.
I’m happy to say Abbotsford Club members went out of their way to help, and I give them a big pat on the back as the tournament ran smoothly.
Thanks to Les Timar, Lee Timar, and Jim Hill who took care of the draw and kept it moving. A thankyou to Holly Thompson who took care of the kitchen. Well done. We must not forget Greg Clark who was available to help and take care of the shuttles. Lee Timar, Greg Clark, and Holly Thompson are long time Abbotsford players.
We thank the MEI School for the use of the school facilities for this event.
The 2009 Abbotsford Badminton Club invitational tournament was a great time of fun and camaraderie. Many thanks to all who lent a helping hand to make it a success. We trust to will see all of you and a few more at our next tournament. Check out all our photos by clicking on the Tournament tab.
I have been following Canadian Olympic Badminton with great interest the last few days. Our own (BC) Anna Rice did a great job in her first match against Eva Lee of the US. The game was exciting the whole way through. Anna kept the lead throughout the first game, lost the second game and trailed in the third game right up until the end where she powered past Lee to win
Hey, y’all! It looks like I will be out of commission for a bit. Thanks for all your help getting me off the court and to my car last Wednesday. (I completely tore my achilles tendon and ended up having surgery )
Here’s the lesson I have learned. Make sure you are well hydrated and well stretched out before you go out on to that court!!
